Pranayama practice at Own Balance

  • Better focus and concentration

  • Regulate the nervous system

  • Reduce stress, anxiety

  • Balance the power of mind

  • Increase breathing quality

Pranayama is a foundational practice of yoga that prepares the body, nervous system, and mind for one-pointed concentration, leading to deeper levels of realisations about oneself.

Pranayama is breathing exercises that focuses on balancing the Nadi’s (channels carry prana – or life force – throughout the body) and removing the obstacles so that prana and breath flows smoothly. Pranayama practice balances the nervous system by creating breath awareness and breath control. A regular pranayama practice results in;
– Calm nervous system (balanced mental and emotional state)
– Proper breathing
– Balanced energy flow within physical body

Most yoga classes nowadays typically focus more on the asana practice where pranayama gets less or almost no focus. Therefore one of the most important and transformative elements of yoga is missed.

At Own Balance, we teach two types of pranayama lessons; based on the duration.
1. Kriya’s Bandha’s and Pranayama is a full 1 hour session, the first 45 minutes are pranayama and kriya practices whereas the last 15 minutes of the session is a guided meditation.
2. Short Pranayama is a 15 minute session integrated into Easy Flow and Pranayama class on Thursdays.

Both of these pranayama practices are designed to give you a grounding in practicing traditional pranayamas, kriyas, and bandhas.
